Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: How strong are Profero ceramic knives?
- A: Profero ceramic blades are very abrasion-resistant which means they will retain their sharpness at least 10 times longer than conventional steel blades. Depending upon what you are cutting, they may even last up to 40 times as long.
- Q: How sharp are Profero ceramic knife blades?
- A: Have you ever heard the expression, "Like a hot knife cutting through butter?" The Profero Presenza blades are so razor sharp that they put that expression to shame! They are harder, sharper, longer lasting, and no other manufacturer's steel blades cut close to Profero ceramic knives!
- Q: Will Profero ceramic knives rust or stain? Will they react with food?
- A: No. Profero ceramic knives will never rust or stain. Because ceramic knifes have a natural chemical inertness to both acids and alkalis, they will never rust or react with food, leaving no metallic tastes or odors on your food. Profero ceramic blades will offer you the peace of mind knowing there is no special care involved that conventional stainless steel knives require. They are hassle-free!
- Q: Which foods can I cut with Profero ceramic knives?
- A: Profero ceramic knives are ideal for daily use in the kitchen and specially designed to slice all types of fruits, vegetables, and boneless meats.
- Q: How do I sharpen Profero ceramic knives?
- A: Unlike traditional stainless steel cutlery, ceramic knives generally do not need to be sharpened. Excessive use, however, may cause the blade to become dull.
- Q: How can I damage a ceramic knife?
- A: You can break the tip (and possibly snap the blade off the handle) if you use a ceramic knife to pry, rather than slice. You could also chip the edge if you try to cut bones. Ceramic knives are rigid performance instruments which should not be used for chopping, cutting bones or frozen meats, or as a pry tool. Damage may also occur if the knife is dropped and the blade hits squarely on the ground. To prevent unnecessary blade wear, always use a wood or polyethylene cutting board, and avoid cutting on any hard surface.
- Q: Are Profero ceramic knives dishwasher safe?
- A: Profero ceramic knives should only be hand-washed with a mild solvent. Avoid putting your knife in a dishwasher or near any objects that could cause damage to the blade of the knife.
- Q: How should I store my Profero ceramic knives?
- A: You should store your Profero ceramic knives in a conventional wooden knife block, or in an in-drawer knife tray.
- Q: How are Profero ceramic knives manufactured?
- A: First, ceramic powder is molded into blade "blanks" with special high-pressure presses exerting over 300 tons of pressure. Special binders in the powder allow the blanks to retain their shape before firing, taking several days at extremely high temperatures in excess of 2600°F. The knife blanks are then ground and polished on a diamond wheel to form an edge before the handle is attached. Profero Presenza ceramic knives are second in hardness to diamonds!
- Q: Why are ceramic knives either black or white?
- A: Ceramic knives are produced with either a black or a white blade. The white ceramic blade is constructed out of zirconium oxide. The black ceramic blade is made with an extra firing process which causes the blade to darken and be stronger.
- Q: Is there anything that should not be cut with Profero ceramic knives?
- A: Since Profero ceramic knives are very rigid, they cannot be used for chopping, cutting bones /frozen foods, or prying open objects. This may cause the cutting edge to chip off or the blade to break free from the handle.
