Corporate Tax Accountant

Basic Purpose & Objective of the Position:

  • Responsible for accounting activities related to the preparation and management of the sales and use tax and Accounts Receivable processes.
  • Ensures sales and use state tax filings are completed timely and accurately. Reviews federal, state, and local tax guidelines to determine minimized taxes and all compliance requirements are met. Coordinates all communications with and support to governmental auditors during compliance audits.
  • Coordinates and complies tax information in conjunction with external audits.
  • Responsible for leveraging online reporting and remitting local or state taxes.
  • Facilitates the annual reporting and payment of fees relating to business licenses for each retail location.
  • Ensures AR transactions are completed. Receivable accounts are current and past due accounts are collected.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate sales and use tax filings adhering to current federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Responsible for managing and enhancing current data preparation and retention procedures that reports and maintains sales and use taxes.
  • Identify and implement electronic tax reporting and payments to taxing authorities offer the electronic option.
  • Use taxes on fixed assets are reported and paid timely.
  • Reviews key vendors to ensure sales taxes are being charged correctly, as per state guidelines.
  • Ensure taxes are uploaded, posted, and reconciled to the GL.
  • Generates AR invoices and account statements
  • Applies lock box deposits, and ensures payments are posted in a timely manner.
  • Establishes new AR accounts according to credit limit guidelines.
  • Communicate status of receivables to CFO on a monthly basis.
  • Perform collection activities including initiating collection calls, research unpaid invoices and documenting actions taken.
  • Focuses on process improvements by challenging and enhancing current processes.
  • Manage and complete special projects and assignments as directed by the CFO.
  • Performs other duties as required by business and departmental requirements.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

Other Training/Technical Skills/Knowledge:

  • 3 to 5 years experience in sales and use tax administration and accounts receivable functions.
  • Retail and/or manufacturing accounting experience preferred.
  • Multiple state filing and tax audit preparation required.
  • Broad understanding of sales and use tax and their impact on financial statements.
  • Have a working knowledge of accounts receivable collecting and processing of funds.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of associates.
  • Ability to use spreadsheets (Excel) at an advanced level, Access, and Great Plains
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and large volumes.
  • Works collaboratively with others to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to be an effective customer/client service provider.
